Struck by The Perth Mint in the
shape of a bar, this new rectangular dragon bullion coin is issued as an
Australian legal tender with a face value of 1 Australian dollar and is backed
as a sovereign coin by the Australian government. Made from 1 ounce of 99.99%
pure silver, this release taps into surging interest in Asian-style design
themes exemplified by the Mint’s highly successful Australian Lunar coin
program. In the 2018 series, the obverse features Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth
II, a design by Ian Rak-Broadley, the face value, year-date, fineness and
weight. The Reverse depicts a Chinese dragon chasing a flaming pearl along with
clouds in the background, along with the mint mark “P” (Perth). The 2019 and
2020 series bear Jody Clark’s design of the Queen on the obverse and the
reverse depicts a different dragon design. To convey the significance of
Chinese lore and legend, the designs visualizes an Oriental dragon, a mythical
creature revered for its benevolence. Its serpentine figure is chasing a flaming
pearl, to have the mysterious capacity to concede individuals their desires.
Each coin is struck with precise attention to detail for which The Perth Mint
is internationally renowned. Adding to their exclusivity, rectangular Dragon
bullion coins are subject to strict annual mintage restrictions with no more
than 500,000 minted (2018), 250,000 (2019 & 2020).
Silver is the new gold. Affordable and an elite metal to own.
