You are purchasing a beautiful 1988-S John F. Kennedy Half Dollar Clad Proof Coin. These coins ONLY come from original United States Mint Proof Sets. This coin is in beautiful Deep Cameo condition. The Kennedy Half Dollar is a Fifty Cent US Coin and was first minted in 1964. It was put into place rather quickly after the assassination of John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963 to replace the popular Benjamin Franklin Half Dollar. Many of the earlier coins were hoarded by collectors as momentos of JFK, then the rising price of silver caused many of them to be melted for their silver content. The obverse of the coin depicts a bust of John F. Kennedy with the words Liberty and In God We Trust and was designed by Gilroy Roberts. The reverse is an eagle with a shield and the words United States of America and Half Dollar and was designed by Frank Gasparro. The coins were originally 90% Silver, but in 1965, began to be produced with only 40% Silver and in 1971 Silver was entirely eliminated.
